We saw a need.

On the heels of the global pandemic, we saw a need for community like never before. With headlines reading “No One Wants to Return to the Office” and “Remote Work 4Ever” , we knew there would be a need (not just a want) for a third place.

Designed with connection and style at its core, community is what drives us and a Durham where everyone thrives is our motivation.

Ok, but why

do you spell

ORENGE

that way?

it is a funny spelling, we admit, but it is also unforgettable . . .

When we began developing the idea of our co-working spot, we knew we wanted to create a brand that epitomized what Durham means to us: a place where EVERYONE is not just welcomed, but celebrated.

Inspired by Orange Street Downtown, we started to look further into the fruit, its origins, and its name. From a tiny seed beloved by indigenous peoples in Asia as early as 3000BCE, the tangy sweet Orange proliferated around the globe and is now cultivated on six continents, enriching the world.

The word itself descends from “nāraṅga” in Sanskrit, which evolved to “nārang” in Arabic and then from Aramaic and Old French to “Orenge”. This etymologic journey, for us, symbolizes both the grounding of our collective ancestoral history and the sheer possibility of a simple idea.

Whether you’re building a local creative business from the ground up, looking for a meeting space to bring your non-profit organization together, or a establishing a Bull City hub for a global tech corporation, we created a mindful, future-driven space where your ideas can bear fruit.

That’s why our tagline has and always will be: YOU BELONG HERE.

Meet our team:

  • Design + Community Director

The designer of our brand and interiors, Alva loves curating spaces that intrinsically feel kind and inspiring.

She splits her time between Orenge and her own company housed here The Assemblage Studio. Alva is also a partner on our Downtown building and she’s a member of Durham’s Historic Preservation Commission.

  • Experience Manager - Downtown

As a native Durhamite, there’s very little Anansi doesn’t know about the Bull City. She’s the first face you see at our Downtown location and she’s always eager to help with literally anything.

Named for a spider in a children’s book (her mom is a former librarian), she’s also our on-site notary & resident comedian.

  • Experience Manager - South Durham

Originally from Atlanata, Michelle is an incredible barista and a delightfully warm personality (not to mention, incredibly stylish). She’s in charge of daily happenings at the Orenge location within Durhamite’s “Southcourt” building.
